National Land Zoning Project has been launched by Bangladesh Government to ensure proper use of land resources that are under the increasing threat of misuse by rapidly growing population. The idea of National Land Zoning first came up in the National Land Use Policy 2001 where Ministry of Land proposed National Land Zoning for better planning and management of Land resources of the country.
The main goal of this project to develop a digital land zoning information system where digital map of each upazila of Bangladesh can be found with detail information on land used for agriculture, fisheries, forestry, tourism, rural and urban settlement, industrial and commercial and other purposes. This information could be used as a planning tool by Government agencies, policy makers, development planners to protect valuable land from misuse or overuse in future.
