A handful enthusiastic people started a Medical School in Rajshahi city in 1954. A four year course was started leading to diploma LMF (Licentiate of Medical Faculty) offered by the state Medical Faculty, Dhaka. A total of eighty students were admitted in the very first year of its inception. In 1954, the then East Pakistan Government converted it into a government institute, Rajshahi Medical School.

Later on, the government decided to start a five year course leading to MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery) degree and as such 1958 Rajshahi Medical College came into being. The Medical College was then housed in a small building of the Barendra Museum. It was later shifted to the present college building. Forty two lady and two foreign students were admitted in the first batch.

I am an ex student of RMC .I entered the college in 1964 and graduated in April 1970 as the exam was delayed . one of my class fellows is Dr Mahmud Hasan who is a gastroenterologist and former vice-chancellor of Bongobondhu Medical university . I retired as Surgeon General from Pak Army in2007 after attaining the rank of Lt General. Presently I am Prof of cardiac surgery and Principal CMH Lahore Medical College .Ihave visited RMC in 2005 and was touched by the reception given to me . I shall be glad to communicate with Alumini of RMC . Please keep me in communication loop . Thanks . Afzal.

I am from 16th batch. We admitted in later part of 1974 and graduated in July 1981. We are arranging regular annual reunion of our batch since 2002. The 9th one is scheduled on 25 December 2009 at Savar, Dhaka. Batch mates are most welcome to join with families!
