More known as a Trade Unionist, both nationally and internationally, Mr. Nazrul Islam Khan is one of the founder leaders of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party - BNP. He was the Secretary, Labour Affairs when the BNP was established under the leadership of late President Ziaur Rahman. Later on Mr. Khan was elevated to the position of Office Secretary with the status of Joint Secretary General of the Party in 1994. Born on 3rd of January, 1948 in a respectable family of Jamalpur Mr. Khan is an active trade unionist since 1968. He is the founder General Secretary of Bangladesh Jatiyabadi Sramik Dal, established in 1979. BJSD is the largest national center of trade unions in Bangladesh. Basically a metal worker; Mr. Khan was elected General Secretary of South Asian Regional Trade Union Council - SARTUC in it's conference held in Nepal in 1998. Mr. Khan was elected as a Substitute Member of the ILO Governing Body in 1998 and was re-elected in 2002. He is the founder Secretary General of Bangladesh Institute of Labour Studies - BILS. Mr. Khan has represented Bangladesh as Workers Delegate in the International Labour Conference held in Geneva, Switzerland for 13 times since 1979. He is also an elected Member of the Executive Board of the ICFTU Asia and Pacific Regional Organization - APRO.
