Jatiya Kabi Kazi Nazrul Islam University was established by the Government of Bangladesh on 01 March 2005. The academic program of the university started on 03 June 2007 with four Departments under two Faculties. At present, there are 12 departments under 4 faculties. The university has just started, still miles to go to attain its vision and mission. It is therefore most important that everyone should work together to transform this university into a 'Centre of Academic Excellence' for promotion and enrichment of this country's cultural heritage and human values for which the national poet Kazi Nazrul Islam relentlessly fought through his writings and songs.

Currently, there are 4 Faculties.
