 | President asks bureaucrats to cooperate with EC 09 November, 2006
President and Chief Adviser Professor Iajuddin Ahmed Thursday asked top bureaucrats of the administration to extend cooperation to the Election Commission under government instructions for holding a peaceful, free, fair and neutral general election. “You will have to discharge your function by maintaining utmost neutrality and objectivity by rising above all fears, apprehensions and effluence,” he told the secretaries of the ministries at the Secretariat, as his interim government tries to gather wits amid disarray in political arena.
Professor Ahmed said it is indispensable for the administration to gain confidence of all political parties for ensuring peaceful, free and fair elections.
He said the civil and police administrations would have to work neutrally to achieve the confidence of the political parties and the people and to take care so none should face political harassment. The President cited Article 21 (2) and article 126 of the constitution to remind that it is the responsibility of the employees of the republic to provide all time-service to the people and it is the responsibility of the executive authorities to assist Election Commission in discharging its duties.
He called upon the secretaries to perform their function by showing allegiance to law and maintaining discipline, honesty and neutrality. The head of state and government asked the bureaucrats to make sure that the offices under ministries/divisions and field-level officials strictly abide by government instructions.
