 | JN Varsity turns into battlefield for 2nd day: 50 injured 17 July, 2006
Twenty critically injured activists of Shibir, student-wing of Jamaat-e-Islami Bangladesh have been admitted to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) for treatment.
Additional police personnel have been deployed around the DMCH to avert any untoward incident.
Witnesses said the students, belonging to Shibir assembled near the Jagannath University campus in the morning following their ouster from the university on Sunday.
Later, the Shibir activists brought out a procession protesting Sunday's attack on them, when the BCL activists allegedly beat up Shibir activist Rabiul Islam.
As they tried to enter the campus at about 10.30am, the activists of the ruling BNP backed Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) and opposition Awami League backed Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) jointly resisted them, resulting in chase and counter chase.
At one stage, violent clashes broke out between the students. Both the student groups used bombs, arms, sticks and brick-bats against each other.
