 | JMB leaders won’t appeal: Execution within 28 days 23 September, 2006
JMB kingpin Shaikh Abdur Rahman and his second-in-command Bangla Bhai said that they would not appeal against the death sentences before the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court.
They will also not place any mercy petition to the President for their lives.
Major Siddiqi, DIG, Prisons of Dhaka Division, said, “They remained normal when I read out the death warrants to them.”
The militants sought permission to meet their near and dear ones and asked for some religious books, he added.
“We never appeal as we have no trust in the man-made law,” jail sources quoted the JMB militants as saying.
“There is no Islamic rule in the country. We don’t have any faith in the government,” the sources further quoted the JMB kingpin’s statements, as they were asked to submit their appeals, if any, before the Appellate Division of Supreme Court within seven days.
The DIG said the militants sought permission to meet their wives and children.
They also asked for some religious books, including Bangla translation of the Holy Quran along with some other books like Tafseer-e-Ibne Kasir, Hasinul Muslim and Salatul Rasul- the rules of Namaz, the DIG added.
Meanwhile, seven top militants of Jamaatul Mujahedin Bangladesh (JMB) would face capital punishment within next 28 days, which will fall in the holy month of Ramzan.
