 | Council of Advisers hold first meeting 01 November, 2006
Ten advisers of the Caretaker Government yesterday started the first day of work having a meeting with President and Chief Adviser of the non-party Caretaker Government Professor Dr Iajuddin Ahmed and placing wreath at the National Mausoleum at Savar.
They are expected to join their office today following yesterday’s distribution of portfolios.
The maiden meeting of the council of advisers was held at Bangabhaban with President and Chief Adviser of the non-party Caretaker Government Professor Dr Iajuddin Ahmed in the chair.
The meeting discussed the overall law and order situation in the country and directed all concerned to take all possible steps to improve the situation by foiling any attempt to create anarchy, indiscipline, chaos and unlawful activities to enhance public confidence.
The meeting also laid special emphasis on the improvement of law and order across the country for holding parliamentary polls, scheduled for January in 2007, smoothly.
After the meeting the advisers told reporters that they are trying to be impartial in holding the election and hoped that people will have trust in them.
They also sought cooperation from all concerned to perform their duties and said they are trying to thrash out ways to hold the elections in a free and fair manner.
Advisers—Justice Mohammad Fazlul Haque, Dr Akbar Ali Khan, C M Shafi Sami, Lt Gen (Retd) Hasan Mash-hud Chowdhury, M Azizul Haque, Mahbubul Alam, Dhiraj Kumar Nath, Professor Sufia Rahman, Yasmin Morshed and Sultana Kamal attended the meeting.
