 | 10 Advisers take oath

Ten advisers of the caretaker government took oath at a simple ceremony at Bangabhaban last night. The swearing in function followed hours of bargaining by political leaders over the appointment of advisers.
According to sources, hard bargains by political parties over different demands particularly on transfer of government officials at different levels and delay in receiving lists of nominees from the parties delayed the process.
President and Chief Adviser of the non-party caretaker government Professor Iajuddin Ahmed administered the oath at the Darbar Hall of Bangabhaban at 10:30pm.
The 10 advisers are: Justice Fazlul Haque, former cabinet secretary Akbar Ali Khan, former Chief of Army Staff Lt Gen (Retd) Hassan Mashud Chowdhury, former Foreign Secretary CM Shafi Sami, former IGP, M Azizul Haque, former secretary Dhiraj Kumar Nath, Mahbubul Alam, Editor of The Independent, noted Cardiologist Professor Sufiya Rahman, Principal of Scholastica School Yasmeen Morshed and Executive Director of ASK, Sultana Kamal.
Portfolios of the advisers were yet to be distributed when this report was filed at 10:45pm.
Barrister Mainul Hosein, former President of the Supreme Court Bar Association, who was invited to join as an adviser, expressed his inability to Join the Caretaker Government.
In a letter Barrister Hosein thanked the President and Chief Adviser for his kind gesture, and assured him of all cooperation.
In another letter Barrister Hosein thanked former Prime Minister and BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia for suggesting his name for appointment as adviser.
