FOUNDATION OF SAARC WRITERS AND LITERATURE is the SAARC Literary Wing of Academy of Fine Arts and Literature which is active in Delhi since 1975 : in the field of culture, visual and performing arts, literature and social justice through education and empowerment of poor marginalised women. Literature has always been given a place of priority in our institution. For the last 27 years we have been regularly organizing Literary Gatherings on the last Saturdays of every month. These are not ordinary, run-of-the-mill gatherings. Our endeavour has always been to integrate creative minds from different parts of India, presenting their writings in different Indian languages, in creative transcriptions of Indian regional language writings in Hindi, Urdu and English. Gradually we expanded our vision to include in our literary interactions the neighbouring countries of the SAARC Region as well, because it seemed a strange paradox that we know more about Shakespeare and Wordsworth and Garcia, and almost nothing about what is being written by the writers in the neighbouring countries : Bangladesh, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bhutan, Nepal, Maldives, Afghanistan, and of course in different parts of India.
